Kimberly Overman, Florida Congressional D15 Candidate Issues Statement on Recent Events in Minneapolis and Calls for Federal Accountability Review that includes transparent processes, responsible leadership, and steps to rebuild public trust.
Kimberly Overman, candidate for Florida’s 15th Congressional District, released a statement today addressing the recent events in Minneapolis. Overman expressed deep concern about the situation and emphasized the need for transparency, accountability, and steps that support public trust in federal and local institutions.
“The events in Minneapolis are heartbreaking, horrific and should not happen in a free society. Our communities are hurting all across the nation, and moments like this remind us how important compassion and understanding are,” Overman said. “The actions from the Administration over the last several months, especially the last 72 hours, are insufficient to calm the situation and rebuild trust with the American people. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem must resign. Greg Bovino is a failure to command, and relying on Tom Homan to make things better or improve immigration policy is a recipe for disaster that will further erode the public trust. Additionally, there should be no congressional authorization of further DHS funding until bipartisan congressional hearings have occurred and federal agents leave Minnesota.” Overman called for a thorough congressional review of federal agency actions, noting that bipartisan hearings are essential to clarify processes, assess the use of authority, and identify areas where immigration reforms or structural adjustments may be appropriate. Overman stated that transparency is crucial to maintaining the public’s confidence in government institutions.
“People deserve clarity, reassurance, and leadership that listens. I remain committed to engaging with the public in a way that supports healing and constructive solutions.” Overman characterized the events as deeply troubling and urged a measured, fact‑driven review to understand what occurred and how similar situations can be prevented in the future.
Overman stressed that federal leadership has failed to play a significant role in ensuring responsible actions, effective communication, and calm during moments of national tension. “I’m offended that this Administration has completely desecrated the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 14th Amendments to the Constitution with their dangerous actions and rhetoric. The American people have had enough. The lack of response by Congresswoman Laurel Lee about the events in Minneapolis other than her fascination with unproven accusations of fraud by Somali childcare providers does little to atone for this tragedy.”
Overman raises broader concerns about constitutional protections and encourages elected and appointed public officials at all levels to engage thoughtfully and responsibly in their public communication. She emphasized the importance of upholding civil liberties and fostering national dialogue grounded in respect, accountability, and the rule of law. “It is readily clear that the Republican majority and its administration has forgotten their sworn oath and duty to uphold our Constitution and the rule of law. It’s time to hold those that are failing the people of the United States to account for their actions.”
The statement highlights that moments of national distress require transparency, consistent communication, and responsible leadership from federal institutions. The message encourages a comprehensive review of all relevant actions to determine where protocols succeeded, where they failed, and what can be improved. It emphasizes that such a review should be conducted with openness, respect for civil liberties, and a commitment to accurate information.
The statement also stresses the importance of constructive engagement among federal agencies, local leadership, community stakeholders, and the general public. It notes that collaboration, not conflict, is essential for rebuilding trust and creating pathways toward stability and understanding.
Finally, the message reaffirms that constitutional principles and public safety must remain at the forefront of decision‑making and communication, especially during challenging national events.
